Industry Update
Welcome to this month's Industry Update, full of carefully selected articles, reports and blogs, as well as a summary of activity in the AWCM index and events around the world.

It's a bumper issue of required Reading this month! There is so much good stuff out there at the moment. It seems that many email thought leaders have been busy writing during their summer vacation. Thanks to them we all have some serious reading to do.

Don't forget to let us know of any articles, posts or events you'd like to share.
What we've been reading...
The AWCM Index
What we've been reading... Morgan Stewart's "12 Step Program" for taking your email programme to the next level is definitely worth a read. When you get to step 3 make sure you contact Alchemy Worx because we will take care of steps 4 to 12 on your behalf.
Everyone seems to be talking about abandoned shopping cart programmes these days, but a recently published "Shop and Abandon" Cart Study of the top 500 US retailer by Listrack finds that less than 11% of them deploy abandoned cart messages. We have a feeling that the number in the UK is even smaller, based on our own 'straw polls' and the difficulty we had in finding examples for last week's Email-Worx.
In a rare foray outside the world of advertising, mobile and search this month New Media Age published a feature on CRM and Segmentation; highlighting the importance and benefits of effective use of your data.
"Be relevant" is easy to say but much harder to do so Loren McDonald's article 'Relevance: What Is It, Anyway?' outlining all the different ways to be relevant should come in very handy.
Email marketing reports posted the latest in a series of posts reviewing 187 promotional emails sent by Amazon.com. This post looks at the way Amazon use branding in their subject lines for the purpose of branding. The article touches on the ability of subject lines to deliver more than an open. We've been looking at how subject lines can be used to raise brand awareness for over a year now, so stay tuned for more on this topic in future issues of Email-Worx.
The EEC has released a 'Bounce Code Directory' to help marketers keep track of the various codes used by each ISP. The directory, which is more of a forum, will leave you with no excuse for failing to keep on top of your bounces!
Available to all DMA (UK) Members is a very comprehensive checklist for your email creative. Will yours pass the health-test?
And finally, it wouldn't be an issue of Required Reading without some mention of social media... so this month we recommend you read this interesting article from the Guardian, comparing the potential monetary value of Twitter and Second Life.
