Welcome to our Industry Update, full of carefully selected articles, reports, blogs and industry events.

This month we are very excited to be able to share the first year on year data from the AWCM index. Email marketing activity aimed at consumers has increased significantly in the downturn. Year on year the number of emails received by our inbox is up 29%!
The growth has been fuelled by increases in both the number of brands actively emailing their subscribers and the average number of emails sent by each brand.

The AWCM Index
What we've been reading... Engine Ready, a search marketing provider, recently released a report comparing the value of traffic generated by PPC vs. SEO. However, the findings provide a boost for email marketers too. The robust study finds that direct visitors spend more time on your site, are more likely to convert and spend more money. The study will provide you with plenty of reasons for investing more into your email marketing; arguably the cheapest and most effective way to drive direct traffic to your site.
A thought provoking article by Jordan Ayan in Email Insider argues that email marketers should start optimising their email content for inbox search functionality, to help subscribers find emails you have sent that they have filed or archived.
In a rare foray outside the world of advertising, mobile and search, this month New Media Age published a feature on CRM and Segmentation; highlighting the importance and benefits of effective use of your data.
