Industry Update
With Email-Worx fast approaching its first birthday, we're asking you to help us help you... We've received some great feedback since its inception in January this year, and are now planning our content for 2010. We're using our open and click data, as well as web analytics on our landing pages to see what you've read the most, but we'd really like to know what you'd like to hear about. So if you have any specific questions about your own campaigns, general topics you'd like more information on, or if you have a campaign you're particularly proud of get in touch.

We know from our stats that you take the time to read our carefully selected 'Required Reading' articles and this month we've found some great reads on a range of topics from your long term email strategy to a number of interesting views on welcome messages. And don't miss the AWCM Update, which reveals a significant increase in volume of emails received both from the previous month and year.

The AWCM Index
What we've been reading... Mike May's 'Pep Talk For Your Email Strategy', published on Email Insider last month, urges marketers to take a long term look at their email strategy and highlights the importance of considering individual subscriber's interactions over time. We particularly liked the part on strategy, headlined "Listen to your subscribers not your ESP"
Welcome Messages seemed to be a hot topic this month with a number of articles discussing and reinforcing their importance. Andrew Robinson from Lyris has a very interesting take on welcome messages as part of your segmentation strategy in his article: Email List Segmentation Starts with "Welcome!"

Chris Marriott posted Onboarding 101: Your guide to instant engagement on iMedia Connection highlighting the opportunity for marketers to engage their audience completely and reduce the need for reactivation messages. This is a very detailed and useful "For Dummies" style guide to setting up a welcome message programme.

In his article on "The Dangers of Loyalty" Mark Brownlow, from Email Marketing Reports, warns that your subscriber's loyalty is not permanent and needs constant nurturing. The section on welcome programmes includes lots of very useful links to additional resources.
Thinking about optimising your emails for mobile? Darrah MacLean's article Subject Line + Preheader: The Perfect Mobile Pairing on Email Insider, looks at how important these two components are when your messages are read on mobile devices, something you should also do when optimising your messages for their brand impact.
Web 30 Technology published a good recap of Alchemy Worx' CEO Dela Quist's session at the recent ExactTarget Conference - Connections '09.

Dela is also extensively quoted in this article in CIM's The Marketer, on How to... get results with e-mail.

Thinking about your holiday reading list? Then try out this list of thought provoking books worth reading by Seth Godin.
The Alchemy Worx Consumer Mailbox Index

The AWCM Index has seen a 20% increase in monthly volumes from September to October - with total monthly volumes now the highest since December 08. This increase in volume has been caused by an increase in sending frequency from the fixed group of companies monitored. With volumes 15% higher than the same time last year, what will this mean for the peak December period?
