Pool the results of your subject line split tests and get a free report worth $299 on the golden rules for writing successful subject lines…
Here at Alchemy Worx we think long and hard about the best way to put a subject line together to maximise your click and open rates. As we are sure you do.
Unlike us most email marketing departments do not have enough resource to test more than 2 or 3 subject lines at a time. At that rate it could take a year to gather enough results to truly analyse them.
So, following on from our previous Subject Line whitepaper, and the recent “How to run a subject line test” issue of Email-Worx, we’re delighted to announce a new research project. This project will be the first subject line study to look at the impact of language – grammar, syntax and word choice – on ROI! Ultimately, we hope to uncover a set of language rules that will determine what words and structure to use in your subject lines to optimise results.
How to write subject lines that sell
In association with digital copywriting agency Sticky Content, we’re going to carry out a software-based linguistic analysis of subject lines that have out-performed others in A/B testing.
By looking for lexicogrammatical trends across a substantial data set, we hope to be able to find answers to such burning subject-line questions as:
• Which work better in subject lines – questions or instructions?
• What are the most effective words to use in subject lines – and what are the words to avoid?
• Which should come first – the offer or the incentive?
• Which works better for discounts: monetary value or percentage?
• Does mentioning your brand name in a subject line really make a difference?
• Does personalisation in the subject line improve performance?
• What effect do adjectives and adverbs have on subject-line success?
• Which tense works best: present or future?
• Which voice works best: active or passive?
The bigger the data set, the more powerful the insights, and the closer we can come to uncovering the winning formula for subject-line success - which is where you come in.
Send us your Subject Lines – get a FREE advance report, worth $299 / £199
We’re looking for subject lines and results of as many split tests conducted in the past 18 months as we can get hold of. Simply download our form, fill in your subject lines test results, and send to the email address provided by Friday 30th July.
All subject lines and performance data will be treated in confidence. The report will highlight underlying trends across large data samples, so no brand or company names will be used without permission.
Once we’ve validated your input, we’ll send you confirmation that we’ve received your subject lines. Then, as soon as it’s ready, you’ll receive a free advance copy of the report, due in early November 2010 - just in time for the holiday season.
